General information

The course is provided by the Industrial Doctoral Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE), an initiative of the Energy Technologies Institute and the Research Councils UK (RCUK) Energy Programme. IDCORE is a partnership of Universities in Edinburgh, Exeter and Strathclyde; HR Wallingford and the Scottish Association of Marine Science (SAMS). SAMS runs two of the IDCORE Programmes, the other course is Marine Renewables and the Environment

This course broadens attendees understanding of the competing interests associated with marine real-estate and how they might impact site selection, progress and compromises enforced on marine renewable energy developments. It is delivered over a two-week period using a mixture of taught sessions, case studies and expert tutorials. Topics covered include:

  • The latest methods used to balance competing interests (Marine Spatial Planning)
  • The legal processes used to assess environmental impacts
  • Marine resources
  • Overview of marine users
  • Marine governance
  • Marine policy and planning
  • Assessment mechanisms

The legal processes will be covered to a level where students will understand the relevance and timescales associated with environmental consenting processes.

Cost:

£2.500 (VAT exempt) including all course materials and lunch each day. You may want to arrange overnight accommodation in Oban if required. (This is not included in the course fee.)
