The Master's program in Environmental Fluid Mechanics (EFM) is a high level second-year (M2) training in fluid dynamics of natural environments, such as lakes, rivers, the coastal ocean or the atmospheric boundary layer. It involves a M1-year entitled Applied Mechanics.
An important part of the program deals with environmental applications, such as sediment transport, atmospheric pollution, exchanges between the ocean and the atmosphere or wind and tide renewable energy. The fundamental courses are supplemented by courses in data analysis (such as machine learning or signal processing) and in experimental methods.
The program is based on the broad expertise available in Grenoble from internationally recognized researchers in fluid mechanics of natural environments.

Application procedure

Learning outcomes

Opportunities for graduates are
• a PhD thesis in France or abroad
• a career in industry or in environmental agencies.

Prerequisites

1-year Master's degree (M1) in related field or equivalent diploma in a relevant discipline.

The applicant should be a student of high academic level and have a sound knowledge of fluid mechanics. They should have completed either:
• the first year of a Master's (M1) program in physics, Earth Sciences, mechanical, civil or chemical engineering
• the 4th year of an Engineering program in mechanical, civil or chemical engineering.
Direct admission from a bachelor degree (in physics, Earth sciences, applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering) is possible for outstanding students with a very good knowledge of fluid mechanics.
