Although Korea’s leading shipbuilding industry has expanded to offshore industry and gained market share, the core of offshore engineering in Korea is still dependent on foreign technology. Moreover, college education in Korea has only focused on ship design. It is expected that 2,000 offshore professionals are needed until 2020. Recently competition to acquire qualified engineers has become fierce among Korean shipbuilding companies. To support sustainable development of the industry through nurture talented professionals in early stage and to develop training program based on industry needs, joint program of offshore plant engineering is established.

Goal of the Program

In the short run, our goal is to train talents in offshore plant area which is a growth engine of shipbuilding industry and to widen the spectrum of new technology development. Specifically, nurturing 200 experts equipped with both theory and knowledge in state-of-art technology until 2030.

We aim to maintain as global top in shipbuilding and ocean industry based on the multidisciplinary collaboration in ocean engineering. Another goal is to develop international network in ocean engineering to nurture talents in ocean development and pursue sustainable development.
