Course Description: STCW requires the proper qualifications and certified courses of instructors training seafarers. This 16-hour training course will offer maritime executives and officers the knowledge and skills to design, produce and deliver maritime training programs ashore and onboard ships. It is a useful tool for maritime professionals of limited training experience.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will learn about: • Training requirements of STCW, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 Codes. • Training purpose & identifying training needs • Benefits of training & the learning process • Architecture, planning and developing courses • Training methodologies • Communication & Interpersonal skills • Assessment & evaluation of training courses.
Course Requirements: USCG NVIC 6-97; Policy on Qualified Instructor and Designated Examiners Who Train or Assess the Competence of Merchant Mariners. STCW 1978, as amended (STCW 95) Section A-1/6; Training and Assessment and Guidelines on STCW Qualified Instructors and Designated Examiners. IMO Model Course 6.09.
Written Exam: A minimum written test score of 70% is required.
Certification approved by STCW/USCG: Upon training & exams completion, participants will receive a TSU Maritime Certificate of Training, valid for 5 years.
Location: TSU Campus or clients’ premises (* subject to USCG/NMC approval).
