Civil engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with the planning, construction, operation and maintenance of fixed structures or public infrastructure. It is about creating, improving and protecting our environment by keeping infrastructure running effectively to meet ongoing challenges on population growth, climate change and natural disasters, etc.

Offshore and Marine Engineering is a branch of civil engineering which is connected with the analysis and design of fixed and floating offshore structures, such as oil platforms and offshore wind farms that are exposed to the offshore environmental loads: wind, waves, currents.

The entry requirement for admission as a Master of Engineering candidate is a good bachelor’s degree. For admission as a Doctor of Philosophy candidate, a Master’s degree is normally required. In both cases, the candidate must show the ability to pursue research in the proposed field of advanced study.

For the M. Eng. degree, the period of candidature ranges from 1 to 3 years, while that for the Ph. D. degree ranges from 2 to 5 years.

Financial support is currently available for suitably qualified candidates.

Application forms and further details can be found from the Office of Graduate Programmes. If you have any inquiries regarding these two degrees, please contact:
